Candidates

Candidate are persons who seek election, and are endorsed by a political party or run as an independent.  Candidates must first register with Elections Alberta and a Writ of Election must have been issued, in order for candidates to be permitted to raise revenue and incur expenses for their campaign.  Registered candidates then file nomination papers with the local returning officer by the date fixed for the closing of nominations, in order to appear on the ballot paper for the electoral event. Candidates must update their registration information with Elections Alberta as changes occur and file campaign period financial statements.

For specific information on candidate registration and financial reporting for senate nominee elections, choose "Financial Period" then "Senatorial" from the left hand menu.

Authority for the reporting of candidate registration and financial statement information is provided by the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act and is available in the Public Files at Elections Alberta.  This website provides information beginning in 2004.
